My motto is, “have a place for (just about) everything.” This has definitely saved me some time and frustration. And when you are mom of one child or more: time is…sanity. Of course, there are still times when I just about go crazy looking for something that either isn’t in its place or doesn’t have a place to be in (you can’t win them all.) However, overall as more places are created life is easier and that makes one happy, functioning momma.
Here are a few of those places…
We have a place for the batteries and charger. With wii remotes, leapsters, toys…I find myself using this little guy a ton.
We have a quick grab spot for things like sunscreen and bug spray. Not very necessary 8 months out of the year in Minnesota, but SO very helpful in the summertime. The kids will be running out the door and I grab the spray and run right after them (sunscreen or bug spray? Just grab both!)
We have a spot for dirty laundry, aka the laundry shoot. Holla! A feature from a 1950’s house that I love. It truly is the next best thing to sliced bread. And the kids know exactly where their dirty laundry goes. Fact: at our previous home our laundry shoot dropped clothes right onto the furnace…not very functional I’d say, so we covered it up and re-painted the wall. This one does its job and does it well!
It didn’t seem right to just take a shot at adult level. I mean really, how cool is this for a kid! It is at their height and they are allowed to put things in it…no, no really kids go ahead (ONLY dirty laundry though.)
Guests are always welcome in our home. Did you forget your tooth brush…no problem. We’ve got you covered.
Do you want to play with some play-doh?
Or maybe a round of UNO?
To sum it up, we have gotten rid of things that we don’t love (aka, don’t use on a regular basis) and made spots for things we do. It is functional, it could change at any time (and probably will as our kids and needs grow.) It is great to know exactly where something is…or at least exactly where something should be. 😉
Do you have a place for specific things in your home?
